Region Serranía de Ronda

The Serranía de Ronda is one of the nine counties of the province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalucía. The region of the Serranía de Ronda limits to the northwest with the region of the Guadalteba; in the east with the region of the Sierra de las Nieves; to the south, with the Costa del Sol Occidental; and to the west and north, with the province of Cádiz. It is made up of 21 municipalities. There is evidence of human life in this region since prehistory.

Demographic characteristics


The “Instituto de Estadística y Cartografía de Andalucía” annually determines the number of inhabitants. Here the figures are taken from the municipal registrations. We have looked at the country of birth of the people who were registered in a municipality in the Serríana de Ronda region.

The figures show the following: in the Serríana de Ronda a total of 3,305 foreigners lived in 2017, which was 6.35% of the total population. Of these 1,985 people were European, which was 3.81% of the total population in the Serríana de Ronda region.

The largest groups of foreigners were: Americans (796), English (480) and Africans (473). The largest groups of Europeans are after the English; Germans (397) and French (397).

The majority of Europeans live in:

  • Ronda: 924 people corresponding to 2.70% of the population. The largest group are the French with 220 people.
  • Gaucin: 231 people corresponding to 14.55% of the population. The largest group is the English with 132 people.
  • Arriate: 175 people corresponding to 4.27% of the population. The largest group are the French with 69 people.
  • Cortes de la Frontera: 128 people corresponding to 3.92% of the population. The largest group are the English and 57 people.

However, if we look at the number of foreigners as a percentage of the total number of inhabitants, names of more smaller villages appear, with the exception of Gaucin.
